It will help you understand the lawn mower and how to operate it. Furthermore, it helps you avoid problems associated with innocence to maneuver it.

Lawn mowing does not require much of your skill or strength and you don't need to depend on someone else.

Basic understanding on how to mow properly a lawn can be achieved through lawn mower manuals, but if you happened to buy second hand lawn mower or used lawn mower which probably you won’t get the manual.

Here there are, some basic steps you need to do before you start mowing.

Step 1:

Make it a point that the operations of your mower had been carefully understood. For instance, you must know how to let your mower come to a stop.

Mostly, on modern and inexpensive mowers, the engine will stop by releasing the dead-man safety bar. This action would both stop the engine ignition and at the same time, enforce a brake to the blades of the mower.

On more advanced machines, letting go of the bar frees the blade but it doesn't stop the engine.

Step 2:

Check, and if a necessity, adjust the cutting height. Gardeners need to know the optimal height depending on their desired output.

Setting the cutting height can be done using levers on each wheel or by taking out each of the wheels and installing them again into the holes of the desired height.

Few mowers utilize a convenient way by using a single control on all the wheels. At all times, make sure that all the 4 wheels are adjusted at the same height.

Step 3:

Make it a priority to always check the oil.

Step 4:

Any obstacles must be removed from your path. These include, stones, blocks of wood, branches, etc. They are hazarding and can destroy your lawn mowers.

If the blade comes into something small, it can be impelled with a high speed similar to that of a handgun. When the tip of the blade, hits something larger, it will stop the engine and can result to serious damage on your mower.

Moreover, immovable objects must be properly marked with paint or any other material that you won't miss it.

Step 5:

Make it a point that all protective equipments are properly placed in the mower. A bag is needed for rear baggers or a cover is properly installed.

A bag or a deflector must be installed also with side baggers. Changing of bags must be done only when the blade and engine are stopped.

Step 6:

Proper clothing and tough enclosed shoes must be worn during mowing. Mowing is prohibited on wet and slippery grounds.

Put on proper eye protections such as safety plastic eyeglasses that can protect your eyes from flying debris.

Hearing protections are also necessary to reduce the noise level in your ears. Ear plugs or even just a compressed cotton or tissue will be acceptable.

Step 7:

Put kids and pets on a safe distance and is away to your mowing area to avoid accidents.

Step 8:

Refrain from mowing a high sloping area in the upward direction first, then going downward as you can slip or the lawn mower will fall away.

If those kinds of area need to be mowed, accomplish it from side to side direction. Side bagging mowers need to be careful of tipping over when the bags are filled with grass trimmings.
